TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - The Ministry of Transportation projects that the number of people crossing the Bali Strait through Ketapang and Gilimanuk ports will reach 1.2 million with 320,000 vehicle units on board during this year’s Christmas and New Year holidays.
The general manager of ASDP Ketapang, Yani Andrianto, said the company has prepared several facilities to anticipate the number, including waiting rooms, healthcare services, and customer care.
"We have also designed several events, a playground, and traditional arts,” said Yani Andrianto in a written statement received by Tempo on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Deputy Minister of Transportation, Comr. Gen. (Ret) Suntana, recently held a coordination meeting with relevant parties to review the readiness of Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The review was intended to make sure Ketapang Port is ready to welcome a surge of passengers during the year-end holiday as people are crossing the Bali Strait.
The Banyuwangi Regency Government is also ready to welcome tourists expected to flood the tourist attractions in this eastern tip of Java Island. This was conveyed by Banyuwangi Regent, Ipuk Fiestiandani.
"Access to Banyuwangi is becoming easier with airports and the increasing number of flights. With scheduled attractions throughout the year, we also hope that people crossing on the ship can stop by at Banyuwangi,” said Ipuk.
On Saturday, another inspection was conducted by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa at Banyuwangi Airport and Ketapang Port. During the inspection, Ni Luh checked the readiness of several facilities at the port, including parking facilities and the waiting area.
"It would be good to offer an experience for the passengers during the Christmas and New Year holiday, like showcasing traditional arts, including Banyuwangi music,” said Ni Luh.
