TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairperson of Indonesian Internet Domain Name Management (PANDI) John Sihar Simanjuntak said the number of .id domain users has reached 1,002,513 as of November 2024.
Meanwhile, the top 5 domain extensions are .my.id (370,759 registered domains), .id (280,119), .biz.id (125,325), .co.id (101,522), and .sch.id (43,716).
John said that this achievement is inseparable from the active support of the government and registrar partners, as well as the intensive digital literacy efforts in various educational institutions, MSMEs, and the general public through workshops, webinars, and various other programs.
"This figure certainly makes us more optimistic about making the .id domain the primary domain of choice at the national level and becoming top of mind by focusing on building .id awareness," he said in a written statement on Tuesday, November 19.
"In the meantime, as a marketing strategy, we will keep striving to build new channels by leveraging the potential of registrar partners who are already connected to many resellers to reach the whole world," he continued.

The current .id domain data is also consistent with data from the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD), which shows that .id is still the largest Country Identity Domain or Country Code Top-Level Domain (CCTLD) in Southeast Asia. This means that .id (Indonesia) is the most popular compared to .my (Malaysia), .vn (Vietnam), .sg (Singapore) and .th (Thailand).
But the successes, says John, have not made PANDI feel satisfied. As manager of the .id domain in Indonesia, PANDI will continue to expand the existence of the .id domain, especially in supporting MSMEs and cooperatives to transform into a digital ecosystem.
"PANDI wants .id to be a domain that provides expansive benefits to the community. Therefore, we are also exploring collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Ministry of MSMEs in preparing a new Second Level Domain (SLD) to encourage MSMEs and cooperatives to go digital and go global," said John.
In addition to increasing competitiveness, the digitalization of cooperatives and MSMEs is also expected to open up business opportunities, create new jobs, increase people's income, and generate a positive impact on Indonesia's economy.
Meanwhile, the rise of negative content like online gambling is a major challenge in the era of digital transformation. In this case, PANDI has launched the Indonesia Domain Abuse Data Exchange (IDADX) platform to improve data security from cyber threats, so that it can improve the best service for partners and customers, and strengthen the public trust in the .id domain as a safe and reliable choice.
