TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Persib Bandung secured a narrow 1-0 victory against the Australian club, Western Sydney Wanderers, in an international friendly match held at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) Stadium in Bandung on Saturday night, August 2, 2025. The match marked the launch of Maung Bandung's team before the 2025/2026 Super League.
Although playing as the home team, Persib initially faced pressure from the beginning of the match.
The visiting team aggressively attempted to take the lead in the 9th minute through a shot by Anthony Pantazopoulos from inside the penalty box. However, the ball only hit the goal post guarded by Teja Paku Alam.
Persib managed to break free from the pressure and launched their own attacks after the 20th minute. Several opportunities were created, including a quick counterattack in the 30th minute executed by Berguinho, but his shot was saved by the Sydney Wanderers' goalkeeper.
Until the end of the first half, neither team was able to score, and the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
Entering the second half, Persib showed more dominance. However, it was Western Sydney Wanderers who almost scored first in the 51st minute through a free-kick by Steven Petru Ugarkovic that hit the goal post, this time guarded by Adam Przybek.
Persib finally broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a curved shot by William Moreira da Silva from outside the penalty box, which the opposing goalkeeper failed to anticipate. That goal turned out to be the only one scored throughout the match.
Until the 87th minute, both teams struggled to create clear opportunities. The score remained 1-0 until the final whistle.
This match was part of Persib's preparation for the 2025/2026 competition season, including the Indonesian League 1 and the AFC Champions League Two (ACL).
