TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga of Central Java Region launched an impromptu inspection of several public fuel stations (SPBU) in Central Java Province and Yogyakarta on Friday, November 22, 2024.
It came shortly after four suspected SPBU fraud cases in Yogyakarta, where the gas stations were found to have manipulated fuel calibration. The four gas stations, which have since been closed, cheated by installing devices that reduced the amount of fuel dispensed, making it inconsistent with the amount paid.
"These sudden inspections are to verify the calibration of measuring devices at gas stations in anticipation of the holiday season of Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025," said the Executive General Manager of PT Patra Niaga Regional Central Java, Aribawa, in Yogyakarta.
Aribawa explained that the calibration verification is to ensure that the equipment performance in the gas station matches the applicable indicators.
The calibration verification is expected to ensure the accuracy of fuel measurement in gas stations when serving the public and comply with the prescribed regulations.
"From the sampled gas stations we inspected, we found no evidence of fraud or other suspicious activities," Aribawa said.
"All the sampled gas stations we have checked so far are safe and without any problems," he added.
In the previous inspection, Pertamina in cooperation with the Metrology agency found that four gas stations in Yogyakarta were involved in fraudulent activities. The gas stations are SPBU 44.555.08 Kaliurang Street Km 9, SPBU 44.552.10 Janti, SPBU 44.552.15 Tugu, and SPBU 44.552.09 Kentungan.
Consumers are advised to purchase fuel at other nearby stations as the four stations will remain closed until an undetermined date.
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Central Java is coordinating the future management of these gas stations, so they can serve consumers according to applicable standards.
"The directive for these four gas stations is due to the discovery of non-compliant equipment, particularly related to measuring tools or fuel calibration," Aribawa said.
He emphasized that the holiday season is an opportunity for people to travel. It often coincides with school vacations.
"So we prepare stations early to ensure they are in top condition when customers purchase fuel," he said.
