TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The narcotics unit of the South Tangerang Resort Police arrested a drug distribution syndicate of the Sumatra-Java network. Officers seized more than 40 kilograms of crystal meth carried by two drug couriers who were paid tens of millions of rupiah.

The bust of this inter-provincial drug network began with the arrest of A, a dealer caught with more than 5.19 grams of crystal meth.

"We arrested a man with the initial A with evidence of over 5 grams of crystal meth. In addition, there were also drug paraphernalia and a cell phone," said the Narcotics Chief of the Tangsel Police Resort AKP Bachtiar Noprianto, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

The drug dealer was arrested in October 2024. However, the police received information about a large drug shipment that crossed the jurisdiction of the South Tangerang Resort Police.

"After further investigation and analysis, we found out that there would be a large drug transaction to be sent using a delivery vehicle," he said.

Bachtiar explained that the illegal crystal meth would be sent from Sumatra. "On November 6, 2024, we observed characteristics of a vehicle that we suspected was carrying the drug shipment," he said.

Authorities arrested two suspects, AG, 28, and YG, 26, who drove the vehicle. They were caught with 40.256 kilograms of crystal meth worth Rp80 billion at a shopping mall in Bekasi, West Java.

"They admitted that they had carried out this illegal activity several times. The crystal meth was intended for distribution in Indonesia," Bachtiar said.

The two drug couriers said they were paid between Rp70 million and Rp90 million for each transaction. "Whether they were sending or receiving the goods, they were paid between Rp70 million and Rp90 million. Both of them have done this several times," he said.

Police are still pursuing S and PW, who are suspected of being involved in this inter-island drug network. These two drug couriers will be charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with 132 paragraph (1) or Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with 132 paragraph (1) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics of the Republic of Indonesia.

"The penalty for the perpetrators is a death sentence, life imprisonment, or imprisonment from 6 to 20 years," he said.
