The head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), Ivan Yustiavandana, denies that the institution will block inactive digital wallets or those classified as dormant. According to him, transaction freezing will only be carried out if there are indications of criminal activity. "That's not true. There is no blocking of dormant e-wallets," he said when confirmed on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
According to Ivan, steps will be taken to block transactions if illegal funds enter digital wallets, and this is a common practice for PPATK. This measure is taken to protect the affected parties.
Ivan also added that there is no need for the public to be concerned about the circulating discourse regarding the suspension of e-wallet transactions. "There is no reason to worry about e-wallets being temporarily suspended," he said.
However, he stated that there have been numerous reported cases of criminal activities using e-wallets that have been reported to PPATK. Based on data from the first semester of 2025, the value of online gambling deposits through digital wallets reached Rp 1.6 trillion, with a total of 12.6 million transactions.
Rumors of freezing dormant digital wallets surfaced after PPATK's move to block inactive accounts sparked controversy. The institution found that dormant accounts are frequently exploited and become targets of criminal activities. After obtaining data on dormant accounts from banks in February 2025, temporary freezing began on May 15, 2025.
PPATK has currently conducted comprehensive and simultaneous reviews of the reported dormant accounts from banks. Consequently, the process of freezing dormant accounts has been completed, and customers only need to wait for reactivation.
