PRESIDENT of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has assigned the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan Roeslani, to undertake a working visit to Jeddah and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Rosan has been asked to directly oversee the ongoing process of building a hajj village in the Holy Land.

This hajj village project is set to become a center for services and accommodations for Indonesian hajj and umrah pilgrims. According to Rosan, his presence in Saudi Arabia marks the first time in Indonesia's history that the country is taking the initiative to have an official and permanent facility in Mecca to support pilgrims.

"This visit is a mandate from Mr. President (Prabowo) to ensure that the plan to build the Hajj Village in Mecca can proceed as expected. Insha Allah, we will oversee this process from the initial stage until it is realized, so that all Indonesian pilgrims have facilities that are representative and suitable during their worship," said Rosan in an official statement on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

In the future, the community will benefit from facilities such as accommodation that can be developed into an integrated service center for worship needs up to health clinics, as well as a counseling area in a strategic location.

According to Rosan, the construction of the hajj village takes advantage of the opportunities from the new policies announced by the Saudi government. As is known, the country recently announced regulations that open opportunities for foreign entities, including institutions or companies, to own property in Mecca. The new regulations allow Indonesia to have strategic assets in the holy land legally and safely.

Previously, Rosan mentioned that Danantara would lead the purchase of land for the hajj village in Saudi Arabia. The authorities of the country are reportedly offering a number of land plots to the Indonesian government. "The areas range from 25 hectares to over 80 hectares," said Rosan at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Rosan stated that the offered land is located quite close to the Masjid al-Haram in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. In addition to housing, the land will also be used for commercial purposes.
