TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto bought many books during his state visit to India on Friday, January 24, 2025. The president bought history and economics books from his favorite store in New Delhi.
"I bought many (books) earlier. History books, economics, and others," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a written message received in Jakarta on Saturday morning, January 25, 2025, Antara reported.
President Prabowo's latest post on his personal Instagram account @prabowo showed himself looking intently at a pile of books on a shelf.
Teddy explained that President Prabowo took the time to stop by the Khan Market area. The roadside bookstore is called Bahrisons Booksellers, which has been around since 1953.
"(The bookstore) is in the Khan Market area, a kind of shop in a roadside market," Teddy said.
Prabowo uploaded a moment on his personal Instagram account early Saturday morning of himself wearing a tan shirt with black pants and shoes, looking at a stack of books neatly arranged on a shelf. "Stopped by my favorite bookstore in New Delhi," Prabowo wrote in the caption. The post showing another side of Prabowo's hobby drew positive comments from netizens.
Based on the information gathered, this is not the first time President Prabowo has bought books. Previously, he stopped by a bookstore at Second Story Books, Washington DC, United States, on the sidelines of his working visit in November 2024. Prabowo usually hunts for books to read, both during visits abroad and at home.
When he was still serving as defense minister in 2022, Prabowo was also seen looking for books on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali.
