TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged gifts after a bilateral meeting at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, on Monday, April 13, 2026. The Indonesian Government Communication Agency, in a press release, mentioned that the moment took place when Prabowo and Putin bid farewell after the meeting.
Putin presented a samovar, a traditional Russian tool for boiling water and making tea, as a gift. Meanwhile, Prabowo gave a batik-patterned flower vase and a Borobudur Temple miniature to Putin, symbolizing the cultural richness and heritage of the Indonesian nation.
"This is a special gift from Indonesia, a vase. This is also a Borobudur miniature," said Prabowo to Putin, as quoted from the Indonesian Government Communication Agency.
Putin expressed his appreciation for the gift given by Prabowo, saying, "Thank you very much, Your Excellency," to Prabowo.
Following the approximately five-hour long bilateral meeting between Prabowo and Putin, President Putin personally escorted Prabowo to the official vehicle waiting in the Kremlin Palace courtyard.
Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that Prabowo's meeting with Putin is part of an effort to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries amid evolving global dynamics. Teddy stated that the meeting began with a two-hour bilateral meeting and continued with a three-hour one-on-one meeting.
According to Teddy, the meeting between Prabowo and Putin resulted in several strategic points of cooperation, particularly in the energy and mineral resources sector, which are long-term priorities for both countries.
"Several points of agreement were made, including long-term cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sector, including oil and gas energy security, as well as downstream processing," said Teddy in his statement, as quoted on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
In addition to the energy sector, Teddy mentioned that the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to continuing and expanding their cooperation in other sectors that directly impact national development.
"The continuity of cooperation in the fields of education, research, technology, agriculture, and investment in various sectors, especially in industrial development in Indonesia," said Teddy.
According to Teddy, Russia holds a strategic position in global affairs, making the partnership between Indonesia and Russia increasingly relevant. "We know that Russia holds a very strategic position in the global arena, not only as one of the veto-wielding countries in the United Nations and a founding member of BRICS," said Teddy.
Teddy stated that Russia is a major world power with significant potential in terms of natural resources. Therefore, Russia can become an important partner for Indonesia in driving long-term development.
