TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
Cormann arrived at one of the side entrances of the State Palace at 1:28 p.m., followed by Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, ten minutes later.
Airlangga said Cormann’s meeting with Prabowo is part of Indonesia’s accession process to the OECD. The former Golkar Party chair said the OECD discussed a special economic report on Tuesday through the OECD Economic Surveys of Indonesia 2024.
The OECD Economic Survey is a flagship OECD publication conducted through policy dialogue between the OECD and policymakers from both developed and developing countries, including Indonesia.
“The results are good, and we are optimistic that next year’s economic target of 5.2 percent according to the State Budget can be achieved,” Airlangga said before accompanying President Prabowo in the meeting with the OECD Secretary General.
OECD Secretary General Cormann said his visit to the Presidential Palace is intended to strengthen economic relations and partnerships with Indonesia.
Indonesia is currently in the process of accession to the OECD along with Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, Romania, and Thailand. Indonesia is undergoing a self-assessment process of national policies, regulations, and standards compared to OECD instruments, to be subsequently presented in the Initial Memorandum document.
The Indonesian government seeks full membership of OECD after being its key partner since 2007. The government targets becoming a full OECD member within the next three years.
