TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government said Turkey, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates are keen to support the Prabowo-led 3 million housing units program. The government reportedly has received a 1 million housing commitment from the UAE.
“God willing, President Prabowo Subianto will witness the signing of 1 million housing [commitment] from the United Arab Emirates, or Abu Dhabi, at the Presidential Palace later on January 31,” said the head of the housing task force, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, in Jakarta on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Additionally, Hashim went on, private investors from Turkey have committed to developing 50,000 housing units and “100,000 housing units by Singapore.”
He also said Qatar has signed the agreement to develop 1 million housing units for low-income people in the form of apartments.
The Qatari government, he said, had also announced its readiness to help develop 4 to 6 million housing units for the program.
“The government of Qatar alone will help build 4 to 6 million residential units, houses, and apartments. Adding the UAE's commitment, that’s 5 to 7 million houses from two countries. I believe this is a quick process, we are able to gain commitment for 7 million housing units in just 3 months,” said Hashim.
Previously, Indonesia and Qatar signed an MoU related to the funding of 1 million housing units for low-income people.
Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait and Qatari investor Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Thani signed the agreement, witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto.
The MoU made Qatar the first overseas investor to take part in Prabowo’s 3 million housing units program.
Hashim Djojohadikusumo also believed that train stations in Indonesia, especially those in major cities, must be connected with flats that are built with the concept of transit-oriented development, or TOD.
The proposal emerged from the ongoing phenomenon of urban sprawl in several major cities across Indonesia, which led to increased mobility. Thus, to reduce dependence on private vehicles and promote the use of public transportation, it is necessary to apply the TOD concept for integrated land use.
