Prabowo Scheduled to Visit IKN in Late December or Early 2025, Says IKN Authority Head

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Head of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, said that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit the new capital in East Kalimantan at the end of the month or early 2025. The IKN chief, however, said the schedule was still being proposed by the IKN Authority.

"(The proposed date is) late December or early January," said Basuki Hadimuljono at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

Basuki stated the palace will then schedule Prabowo’s visit officially. The president, Basuki said, is targeted to have an office at IKN by 2028. "During his reign, it is expected that by 2028 he could work [in IKN]," said Basuki.

So far, he added, the construction of executive buildings like the state palace and ministry offices is expected to be completed by the end of December.

However, the construction of ministry office buildings is still based on the old ministry nomenclature. Therefore, adjustments are likely to be made. "The executive offices will be completed by the end of December, but the Coordinating Ministries that were used to be four are now seven,” said Basuki.

As for the legislative and judiciary buildings, the government targets starting construction in 2025. The government aims to complete the construction within two years.

Previously, the IKN Authority made several security preparations in line with President Prabowo Subianto's plan to start working at IKN on August 17, 2028.

Head of IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, said that coordination had been done with the East Kalimantan Police Chief to the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) for securing vital objects, such as the Garuda Palace and the State Palace.

Previously, the plan for Prabowo to work at IKN on August 17, 2028, or at the latest in 2029, was announced by the Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo. With this target in place, Basuki mentioned that the construction of IKN must be completed promptly.

Moreover, in the G20 forum, Basuki stated that President Prabowo Subianto had previously mentioned that Indonesia's capital city must be moved due to climate change. In the context of climate change, Jakarta is said to be at risk of submerging due to the continuous rise in sea levels.

Furthermore, Basuki emphasized that the construction of the new capital city in East Kalimantan must be swiftly finished because Prabowo had already signed Law Number 151 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Law Number 2 of 2024 Regarding the Special Capital Region of Jakarta Province.

With this regulation, the Governor of Jakarta is no longer referred to as the Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI) but as the Governor of the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ).

Another reason why the construction of IKN must be completed, Basuki mentioned, is that Prabowo had instructed him to promptly finish the infrastructure for the legislative and judiciary institutions. Basuki stated that Prabowo conveyed this before his appointment as the Head of the IKN Authority.
