TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Joe Biden will host President Prabowo Subianto in a bilateral meeting at the White House on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, local time, confirmed White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre. Prabowo's working visit to the United States coincides with the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Indonesia diplomatic relations.
President Biden is scheduled to celebrate 75 years of relations between the U.S. and Indonesia as well as pay tribute to those affected by the tsunami disaster on Boxing Day in 2004.
Biden and Prabowo in the meeting will discuss ways to advance the cooperation between the two countries as part of the Indonesia-United States Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Both heads of state will coordinate on sustainable approaches related to food security, clean energy transition, democracy and pluralism, peace and regional stability, and people-to-people ties, while advancing cooperation in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
President Prabowo previously arrived at Andrews Air Force Base, Washington, DC, United States, on Sunday, November 10, around 4:00 p.m. local time.
He landed in the United States after a working visit to China and a meeting with President Xi Jinping.
Prabowo's arrival was welcomed by U.S. Acting Chief of Protocol Ethan Rosenzweig; U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir; and the Charge d'Affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, DC, Ida Bagus Made Bimantara.
As reported by the Cabinet Secretariat website, from the airport, Prabowo and his entourage went directly to the hotel where they would stay during his stop at Washington, DC.
President Prabowo Subianto's arrival on U.S. soil was also welcomed by Indonesians in the country, where they awaited the president’s appearance in front of his hotel.
According to Antara, a number of Indonesian citizens waited for Prabowo despite the cold weather. Diana, a diaspora from New York, said she left her home at 4:00 am to meet President Prabowo. She mentioned that she had been looking forward to meeting Prabowo since 2014.
