TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said he has instructed Finance Minister Sri Mulyani to cut 50 percent of the budget for state officials’ overseas work trips. The government, he said, has allocated US$3 billion for foreign trips.
"We’ve calculated that state officials’ overseas work trip account for US$3 billion, and I’ve asked to trim it down 50 percent,” said Prabowo while attending a Muhammadiyah event, virtually observed on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Prabowo said this move will save up to Rp15 trillion in state spending. The remaining budget, he said, can be used to develop infrastructure that is beneficial to the Indonesian people.
"The remaining Rp15 trillion is embodied through dams, irrigation systems, and elementary schools that we can revamp. We can also feed schoolchildren with the budget,” he expressed.
Thus, Prabowo asked his subordinates in the government to “fast” for the next five years. He urged regional government officials to manage their budget efficiently.
The head of state asked his administration to cut down on non-critical activities. He said budget inefficiency is one of the sources of national budget leaks.
Prabowo ordered regional government officials not to allocate excessively for seminars. The president reckoned that the local government must understand already the difficulties faced by their people without holding seminars.
