TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto immediately left for Washington DC, United States after a bilateral visit to Beijing, China.

The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, stated that Prabowo's visit to Washington DC is aimed, among other things, at discussing the potential policies that may be adopted by the U.S. President-elect, Donald Trump. One of these policies is the imposition of import tariffs on all Chinese products.

Specifically, Susiwijono said that Trump will impose up to 60 percent tariff on all products imported from China. He mentioned that this would have a serious impact on trade.

"Yesterday, we conveyed some notes regarding the election of President Trump in America, I believe we have prepared some policy responses," he said when meeting at Ballroom Graha Mandiri, on Monday, November 11, 2024.

He said the import tariff policy could also trigger changes in global trade balances. The Indonesian government continues to monitor the potential of international trade policies to formulate the right strategy to deal with their impact.

However, Susiwijono said that some policies could have positive effects. These include the Inflation Reduction Act, which aims to address climate change while boosting the economy. "Such as the IRA policy, the Inflation Reduction Act. Because direct exports from China to the US are banned, many industries have also moved to us and so on," he said.

Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto arrived at Andrews Air Force Base, Washington DC, United States, on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at around 16:00 local time, after concluding his visit to Beijing, China.

Prabowo visited the United States on an honorary invitation from the country. Besides meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden, Prabowo may also meet with the winner of the US 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump.

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed in a written statement on November 11, 2024, that U.S. President Joe Biden will receive Prabowo in a bilateral meeting at the White House on November 12, 2024, local time. Prabowo's official visit to the United States coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Indonesia.

President Biden was scheduled to commemorate the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Indonesia relations and honor those affected by the Boxing Day 2004 tsunami disaster.

Biden and Prabowo will discuss efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two countries as part of the Indonesia-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two leaders will collaborate in sustainable approaches to food security, clean energy transition, democracy and pluralism, peace and regional stability, and people-to-people relations, as well as advancing cooperation between the two countries on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
