ROCKSTAR Games has announced that the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will be postponed. The game was originally planned to be released in September 2025. However, GTA 6 is now scheduled to be released on May 26, 2026.
"Hi everyone. Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026," as stated in the announcement by Rockstar Games on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Grand Theft Auto VI will feature the criminal story of the couple Lucia and Jason in an open world set in Leonida, a fictional region inspired by the state of Florida.
1. Changes
GTA 6 will bring about changes compared to previous installments. The development team has overhauled the main female character, added AI, and designed a complex open world. In November 2024, speculations arose in the online world regarding the use of Rockstar's Advanced Game Engine or RAGE, the game engine owned by Rockstar, for console and PC versions.
At that time, there were hints of the inclusion of ray tracing, a 3D rendering technique capable of producing visuals with a high level of realism. Ray tracing technology is often used to enhance the realistic feel in games, such as shaping trees, grass, and other small details.
2. Cost
One of the reasons for the high production cost of GTA 6 is suspected to be due to the use of Rockstar's Advanced Game Engine (RAGE). This engine allows for a highly realistic gameplay experience. For example, weather will affect the game, causing roads to become slippery when it rains or wind to be stronger in open areas. Anticipation for GTA 6 follows the success of the previous game. Since its release, Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 1.57 million copies.
