TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cyclist Rendy Varera Sanjaya delivered Indonesia’s first medal at the 2025 SEA Games after winning silver in the men’s mountain bike (MTB) downhill event on Wednesday, December 10, in Thailand.
Rendy clocked 02:38.714 on the downhill course at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, finishing behind home rider Methasit Boonsane, who dominated the race with a time of 02:37.856. The bronze medal went to the Philippines’ John Derick Fart, who recorded 02:43.676.
“I am relieved because I gave my best, and I am truly grateful for today’s result. This is my personal best and the best time I could deliver,” Rendy said in a statement released by the Indonesian NOC.
Rendy added that the result has strengthened his motivation to improve his performance in future competitions. “I need to train more. I want to reduce braking and increase pedaling power in upcoming races,” he said.

Chef de Mission of the Indonesian contingent, Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono, praised Rendy’s performance and said he hopes it will lift the spirits of other athletes competing in Thailand.
“Hopefully this becomes a strong start for Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games and encourages more heroes from other sports to contribute medals,” Bayu stated.
Indonesia is expected to add more medals as several sports continue their competitions later today.
