TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Jakarta Metro Police arrested seven suspects involved in the drugs distribution during November 2024. The deputy chief of the South Jakarta Metro Police's narcotics unit, Commissioner Telly Areska Putra, said these seven couriers received orders to deliver the illegal goods, which would be distributed on New Year's Eve.
"That's the plan; to be distributed before the New Year," Telly said during a media briefing at the South Jakarta Metro Police Station on Friday, November 29, 2024.
The police said the seven suspects were from three different networks. Investigators arrested them in four different locations, namely: Makassar District, East Jakarta; Babakan Madang District, Bogor Regency; Bojong Gede District, Bogor Regency; and Sukarame District, Bandar Lampung City, Lampung Province.
"We also arrested 7 suspects with the initials MMS, TH, SBN, APD, G, RHY, and RJ," Telly said.
According to Telly, investigators seized various types of drugs as evidence. Among them were 8.387 kilograms of methamphetamine and 2.150 grams of marijuana. South Jakarta police also seized a car, nine cell phones, and a brown paper bag.
The authorities are still pursuing members of other networks. Telly said that suspect MMS was a courier who stored and distributed packages of marijuana from a fugitive in Medan with the initials PC. Meanwhile, suspects APD and G in this case are couriers who were paid to store and distribute methamphetamine from a fugitive with the initials B.
"Some were paid starting from Rp600,000 per kilogram and some were paid Rp20 million per kilogram," Telly said.
The South Jakarta Metro Police charged the suspects with Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 111 paragraph 2, and Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 112 paragraph 2, juncto Article 132 paragraph 1 of the Narcotics Law. The seven suspects face imprisonment from 5 to 20 years or even life imprisonment. "With a minimum fine of R 1 million and a maximum of Rp10 million," the police remarked.
