TEMPO.CO, JakartaA series of entertainment events in South Korea were affected by the sudden and short-lived martial law imposed by President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday night, December 3, 2024. The concerts of Dua Lipa and Yoasobi in South Korea this week have not escaped fans’ attention.

The British-Albanian singer, Dua Lipa, is scheduled to hold the Radical Optimism concert at Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul, on December 4 and 5, 2024. Live Nation Korea, the event’s organizer, has confirmed that Dua Lipa's concert will proceed as scheduled.

"The Dua Lipa show at Gocheok Sky Dome tonight will be proceeding as planned. Doors are at 18:30," wrote Live Nation Korea on Instagram Story on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

Tonight's performance will mark Dua Lipa's return to South Korea after 6 years. The last time the singer of 'One Kiss' performed in Korea was in May 2018.

The Japanese pop duo Yoasobi will also hold a concert in South Korea this weekend. They are scheduled to perform for two days, on December 7 and 8, 2024, at Inspire Arena on Yeongjong Island, Incheon. This concert will mark Yoasobi's first solo performance in Korea since December 2023, when they performed at HwaJung Tiger Dome in Seongbuk District, Seoul.

Promoter LIVET reassured fans through an official statement that Yoasobi's concert will proceed as originally planned. "This week's live events will proceed as scheduled. Notices regarding merchandise will also be released today," said LIVET, cited from The Korea Times.

Domestic Entertainment Schedules Affected by Yoon’s Martial Law

Despite Dua Lipa and Yoasobi’s respective concerts proceeding as scheduled after the now-lifted martial law, several domestic entertainment events in South Korea decided to postpone or cancel their activities in response to the imposing of martial law last night.

The promotional team of the Netflix series The Trunk postponed the media interview schedule of Seo Hyun-jin from Wednesday, December 4 to Friday, December 6 at Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, according to The Korea Herald.

Interviews with other stars of The Trunk, including Gong Yoo and Jung Yoon-ha, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, respectively, will proceed as planned, said the global streaming company.

The special screening event of the movie The Firefighters, which was organized in collaboration with the National Fire Agency in Sejong, has been canceled. In addition, the press conference for the Netflix reality show Rugged Rugby, which will premiere on Tuesday, December 10, initially planned for Thursday, December 5, is now being discussed for potential rescheduling.

President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Tuesday night, December 3, 2024, through a midnight speech broadcast live on YTN. The decision was made with the justification of the need to defend the country from the threats posed by pro-North Korea communist forces.

South Korean parliament members acted swiftly, and the National Assembly voted unanimously with 190 members present in favor of approving the resolution for lifting the martial law. The Cabinet officially endorsed the decision on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024, at 4:30 a.m. local time, bringing the six-hour emergency to an end.
