TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati explained that Indonesia has three main priorities at the G20 summit in Brazil. The priorities were conveyed during a visit by the British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, to her office on Friday.
Sri Mulyani posted about the meeting with the British ambassador on her personal Instagram. "I explained that there are three key areas of focus for Indonesia in this G20 event," she wrote on her account @smindrawati on Friday, November 15, 2024.
First, she said, it is in line with Brazil's priorities as the host of the G20 summit: hunger and welfare. Through this event, the Indonesian government hopes to gain insights from the experiences of other countries to improve the welfare of the people.
Next is global governance and reform of multilateral development banks (MDBs) or global development banks. According to Sri, Indonesia aims to promote the role of MDBs in supporting financing agendas for climate action, poverty reduction, and debt relief for low-income countries.
Finally, she said Indonesia will remain consistent with sustainable financing agendas and energy transition. This has been discussed several times with partner countries in the G20 and MDB forums. "We will continue the energy transition, one of which is the early retirement process of the Cirebon coal-fired power plant, which is still ongoing," she said.
The state treasurer will attend the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next week. According to the Ministry of Finance's website, the G20 is a major forum for international economic cooperation, consisting of countries with significant world economies, made up of 19 countries and 1 institution of the European Union. The G20 conference has been held annually since 2008. In its process and working system, the G20 has a host or presidency that is determined by consensus based on a regional rotation system and changes annually.
