TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the government will take immediate steps to protect the employees of textile company PT Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex), which has been declared bankrupt by the Semarang Commercial Court.
According to Kartasasmita, the government's current priority is to protect PT Sritex employees from layoffs.
"The government will immediately take steps to help the company continue its operations and save its workers," the minister said in a statement released by his office on Friday, Oct. 25.
He added that President Prabowo Subianto had ordered the ministers of industry, finance, state-owned enterprises, and manpower to review options and schemes to save Sritex.
"These rescue options and schemes will be submitted as soon as possible after the four ministries have finished formulating the method," he informed.
On Wednesday (23/10/2024), the Semarang Commercial Court declared PT Sritex bankrupt, granting the request of one of the textile company's creditors.
One of PT Sritex's debtors, PT Indo Bharat Rayon, filed a request to cancel a settlement agreement reached in 2022 to defer debt payment obligations (PKPU).
"The applicant's request is granted. Canceled the PKPU reconciliation plan in January 2022," Semarang Commercial Court spokesman Haruno Patriadi said.
In January 2022, PT Sritex was sued by one of its debtors, CV Prima Karya, which requested the suspension of debt payment obligations.
The Semarang Commercial Court granted PKPU's claim against PT Sritex and three other textile companies.
PT Sritex was later sued by PT Indo Bharat Rayon for failing to meet agreed debt payment obligations.
Sritex was established in 1966 in Sukoharjo, Central Java. The company is known for its export products, including military uniforms for several countries.
