TEMPO.CO, Sukoharjo - The Board of Directors of PT Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex) Tbk assures that the company will fulfill its obligations to thousands of employees who are currently furloughed. There are approximately 2,500 Sritex employees in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, who have been furloughed due to a raw material crisis at the factory.
This is a result of administrative problems and account freezes that have affected the company's operations. This situation occurred after Sritex was declared bankrupt by the decision of the Semarang Commercial Court some time ago.
"The company will continue to fulfill its obligations to the furloughed employees," said Iwan Setiawan Lukminto, the Chairman of Sritex, when he received the visit of the Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer, at the Sritex factory in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, on Friday, November 15, 2024.
However, Sritex President Director Iwan Kurniawan Lukminto, known as Wawan, added that if the situation continues, it will also affect factory operations.
"The management of Sritex is currently in the hands of four curators and a supervising judge. For now, we will continue to try to avoid layoffs. But in the future, if these decisions are beyond our control, it is also beyond our authority. However, it is still our commitment from Sritex management to avoid layoffs," said Wawan.
According to Wawan, the sustainability of Sritex's business is now in the hands of the four curators and the supervising judge. "The continuity of the business is what we are asking for from the supervising judge and the curators, which is also very important. Looking at the conditions on the ground, it is very important to allow the sustainability of the business," he added.
He mentioned that the meeting with the four curators in Semarang on Thursday, November 14, 2024, did not bring any positive results for the company. They only had introductions with creditors.
"Only introductions and creditors. It didn't meet our expectations. Three weeks ago, we applied for permission for business sustainability. But there was no positive response from them (the four curators)," he said.
He said that Sritex was only asked for data and they asked for time to review the data. Thus, he assessed that there is currently no consensus and unity for the sustainability of Sritex's business.
"If the supervising judge does not allow business continuity, we will run out of raw materials in the next three weeks," he said.
Therefore, he continued, the number of 2,500 furloughed employees will increase over time.
He stated that the appeal files have been received by the Supreme Court (MA). "The appeal files have been received by the MA in Jakarta. We are now waiting for the results. Our fate is now in the hands of four curators and a supervisory judge," he said.
