TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TikTok stated that it is following the directive from Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) to restrict access to its platform for users under 16, in accordance with applicable regulations.
As reported by Antara, TikTok said in a press release confirmed on Tuesday that it highly respects the directive from the Ministry of Communication and Digital, which requires digital platforms, including TikTok, to clearly state that they are intended for users aged 16 and above.
On the Support Center page regarding User Age Guidelines in Indonesia, the company stated its commitment to comply with applicable regulations in Indonesia.
TikTok has expressed its commitment to comply with and implement the steps required of digital platform managers under Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025, which concerns the Organization of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
According to the TikTok Support Center, accounts belonging to users under 16 in Indonesia will be deactivated. The users will receive a notification beforehand.
TikTok stated that it will continue the self-assessment process regarding the implementation of Minister of Communication and Digital Regulation Number 9 of 2026, which concerns the PP Tunas implementation.
Users over 16 who have had their TikTok accounts deactivated can file an appeal by verifying their age. TikTok stated that it has developed over 50 security, privacy, and safety settings that are automatically activated for users, especially teenagers.
Additionally, TikTok stated that the company regularly moderates content according to its continuously updated community guidelines.
TikTok said it will move forward by taking necessary steps in line with regulatory requirements, while continuing to strengthen its security systems and provide information to the Indonesian public as further guidance becomes available.
The PP Tunas takes effect in Indonesia on March 28, 2026. The initial stages of the regulation's implementation targeted eight at-risk digital platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, Bigo Live, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox.
On Thursday (4/9), the following digital platform providers were deemed to have fully complied with the PP Tunas: Meta (Threads, Instagram, and Facebook); X; and Bigo Live.
TikTok and Roblox are considered to have complied with some provisions of the PP Tunas. However, Google, the owner of YouTube, has shown no intention of complying with these regulations.
