1. Trump Announces Indonesia to Import U.S. Agricultural Products; Observers Issue Warning

Agricultural observer Syaiful Bahari has responded to the United States' new 19 percent reciprocal tariff on Indonesian products, noting that U.S. goods, conversely, will enter Indonesia duty-free.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Indonesia will purchase several American products, including agricultural goods. Syaiful stressed the importance of first examining the specific types of agricultural products to be imported from the U.S.

"Agricultural commodities or processed agricultural products that cannot be efficiently produced domestically, or that Indonesia is currently unable to produce independently, should indeed be opened up," Syaiful told Tempo on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

2. Trade Minister Expects Export Surge as Indonesia Secures Lower U.S. Import Tariff

United States President Donald Trump has lowered import tariffs for Indonesian products to 19 percent from the previous 32 percent. Indonesia's Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, views this agreement as an opportunity for the nation to boost its exports.

According to Budi, this tariff reduction will make Indonesian products more competitive compared to those from other ASEAN countries. He explained that previously, Indonesian export tariffs to the U.S. were on par with other nations. However, following negotiations and the U.S. implementing reciprocal tariffs, Indonesia now benefits from lower rates.

"Previously, we competed with the same tariffs; now we compete with different tariffs, and ours are lower," he said after a meeting with Commission VI at the People's Representative Council (DPR) building in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

3. DEN Outlines Impact of Trump's Tariff Reductions on Indonesian Economy

Chairperson of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan responded to the decision of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, who lowered import tariffs from 32 percent to 19 percent for Indonesian export products.

Luhut is confident that this policy will make Indonesian export products more competitive in the global market. According to him, the tariff adjustment is part of a strategic policy aimed at strengthening the supply chain, attracting value-added investments, and bolstering Indonesia's standing as a reputable trading partner.

"We are not rolling out the red carpet for foreign parties, but instead opening up greater opportunities for Indonesian products and business players to compete in the global market," said Luhut in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday, July 17, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
