TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the University of Indonesia's (UI) Faculty of Law, Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, confirmed allegations of sexual harassment involving 16 students as perpetrators. "There has been an act of sexual harassment involving students from the UI Faculty of Law as the perpetrators," said Dimas when contacted on Monday, April 13, 2026.
He explained that initial information about this case came to light after the alleged perpetrators sent a letter of apology through their class group. From there, it was revealed that there were sexual conversations discussing other female students within their internal group. These conversations were then circulated on social media.
Dimas stated that the UI Faculty of Law Student Executive Board is currently being cautious in conveying the chronology to protect the victims. He could only explain that the Board has coordinated with the faculty to follow up on the report.
"The hope is that the perpetrators will be given the most stringent sanctions while prioritizing the interests of the victims and creating a safe space," he said.
The alleged forms of harassment by the 16 students were verbal and digital. Dimas stated that there was no indication of the distribution of the victim's photos. However, he did not rule out the possibility of other findings as the further examination process progresses.
He emphasized the Student Executive Board's firm stance on this case. "I am deeply disappointed by the sexual harassment that has occurred and will not tolerate actions that are not in favor of the victims," he said.
The Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs at UI, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, stated that the university is aware of the alleged case of sexual harassment. Currently, Erwin said, the university is responding to this case seriously.
He emphasized that the faculty and the university strongly condemn all forms of behavior that degrade human dignity. Erwin said that the process of tracing and verification is currently ongoing. "At present, the tracing and verification process is being carried out carefully and thoroughly by the Faculty and the University of Indonesia in coordination with the UI PPKS Task Force," he said.
He stated that UI guarantees protection, confidentiality, and assistance for those affected. "We ask all parties, including the media, to respect the ongoing process," he said.
