TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended a closed meeting to mitigate the impacts of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki’s eruption at the office of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in East Jakarta on Tuesday, 12 November 2024.
Gibran arrived this morning before the meeting commenced but did not give any press statement. Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono confirmed the topic of discussion in the meeting. “Discussing (the mitigation of) Mount Lewotobi,” he said.
Several ministers and state agency heads also attended the meeting, including Head of BNPB Lieutenant General Suharyanto; Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian; Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno; Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani; Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin; Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti; and Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid.
On Saturday, November 9, BNPB reported that as many as 11,445 residents have been affected by Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki’s eruptions since the previous Sunday. As danger zones expand, BNPB said the number of people seeking shelter will continue to rise.
The displaced residents are sheltered in East Flores and Sikka regencies, located within a 9-kilometer radius of the active crater.
