TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported a landslide in West Bandung Regency, West Java Province, on early Saturday, January 24, 2026. As a result of this incident, eight people were reported dead, and 82 are still missing.
"Aside from the fatalities, 23 people were reported safe," said the Head of Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center of BNPB in a written statement on Saturday.
According to Muhari, this disaster affected 113 individuals from 34 families. He mentioned that the West Bandung Regency Disaster Management Agency conducted a rapid and initial assessment of the scene, as well as emergency response and search efforts for the victims.
Muhari explained that the landslide was triggered by heavy rain since 02:30 AM local time on Saturday. The landslide occurred in Babakan Cibudah and Pasir Langu villages in the Cisarua district. Heavy rainfall in the area finally caused the landslide.
"The landslide materials buried the residents' settlements, causing casualties and affecting the residents," said Muhari.
Field officers are still recording the number of houses damaged by this incident. The joint team continues to search for other victims and monitor the incident site.
Muhari explained that West Bandung is currently under an emergency alert for floods, flash floods, extreme weather, and landslides. The alert status was established based on the Regent of West Bandung's Decision Number 100.3.3.2/Kep.359-BPBD/2025, effective from October 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026.
In addition, the West Java Provincial Government has also declared a Hydro-Meteorological Disaster Emergency Alert Status through the West Java Governor's Decision Number 360/Kep.626-BPBD/2025, effective from September 15, 2025, to April 30, 2026.
"BNPB urges people in landslide-prone areas to increase vigilance, especially during heavy and prolonged rainfall," he said. The public is also asked to evacuate immediately if conditions are deemed unsafe.
