TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hotel business actors in Yogyakarta recorded a maximum increase in occupancy during the long Isra Miraj and Chinese New Year holidays this year. Hotel room occupancy in Yogyakarta, especially in urban areas, reached 100 percent.

"Occupancy has been full since January 25 to 28, 2025," said Yopi Adhi Putranto, Cluster Marcomm Manager of the KHAS Hotel Yogyakarta network, Monday, January 27, 2025.

The total number of rooms owned by KHAS Malioboro Hotel and KHAS Tugu Hotel is 270 rooms. All rooms are occupied. Tourists who made reservations at the three-star hotel located in the city center of Yogyakarta during this holiday came from various big cities.

"Guests from Jakarta are 60 percent, East Java 20 percent, and West Java 20 percent," said Yopi.

Yopi said that the KHAS hotel network in Indonesia has nine hotels. "However, only hotels in Yogyakarta and Semarang were most affected (flooded with reservations) during this long weekend," he said.

Meanwhile, General Manager of the Royal Darmo Malioboro Yogyakarta Hotel Joko Paromo also acknowledged the spike in occupancy during this long holiday which reached the maximum number.

"Since January 23 (two days before the long holiday), occupancy has been 88 percent," he said.

Evenly distributed

The Chair of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Deddy Pranowo Eryono said that the spike in hotel occupancy during the long Chinese New Year and Isra Miraj 2025 holidays was quite extraordinary.

"Room occupancy for both hotels and lodgings in DIY reached 98.7 percent," said Deddy, Monday.

The spike in hotel occupancy, said Deddy, was evenly distributed in all areas of DIY. It did not only occur in the City of Yogyakarta and Sleman Regency which have been known as hotel paradises.

"So the occupancy is evenly distributed, including hotels and lodgings in Kulon Progo, Gunungkidul, and Bantul Regencies," said Deddy.

Exceeding Christmas and New Year Period's Occupancy

Deddy compared, the occupancy during the Isra Miraj and Chinese New Year holidays which took place from January 25-29 could even be said to have exceeded the spike during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period yesterday.

"Yesterday's Nataru holiday, the average occupancy was only at 87.23 or below 90 percent," he said.

Deddy is grateful because tourists visiting Yogyakarta today are not only focused on finding hotels in urban areas. These tourists are looking for information on room availability from PHRI and are directed to other regencies.

"When we direct them to hotels in Bantul, Kulon Progo, and Gunungkidul Regencies, they don't complain, even when we offer non-star hotels, they are also willing," said Deddy.

In general, said Deddy, tourists who vacation in Yogyakarta this time are still dominated by Jakarta, West Java, East Java, and Central Java. "The average stay is two nights," he said.
