TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national football team faces pressure before their home match on Friday night, November 15, against Japan. The Garuda squad drops to the bottom of Group C at the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers, as China secured its second win last night.
China defeated hosting Bahrain with a 1-0 score on Thursday night, thanks to Zhang Yuning's goal in injury time. China climbed to fourth place in Group C with six points after Australia and Saudi Arabia’s match ended in a draw.
China is now placed below Japan (10 points, four matches), Australia (six points, five matches, goal differential of +1), and Saudi Arabia (six points, five matches, goal differential of +2). Bahrain (five points and five goals) and Indonesia (three points from four matches) each occupy the fifth and sixth positions.
To secure their chance to proceed with the World Cup qualifiers, Indonesia must prevail over Japan’s national team in tonight’s match.
Only the top two teams will qualify for the 2026 World Cup during this round. The teams in third and fourth place are entitled to proceed to the fourth round of qualifiers, while the fifth and sixth places will be eliminated.
