TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the third round of the Jakarta Regional Election debate, Jakarta's Governor and Vice Governor candidates number 3, Pramono Anung-Rano Karno, pledged to prioritize a humanistic approach in improving Jakarta's city planning. One of their focuses in spatial policy is the prioritization of the city's poor population.
Pramono stated that this policy is one of the feedback he received during discussions with Anies Baswedan on Friday, November 15, 2024. "So in my perspective, there is no difference with Mas Anies, especially for empowering city residents, how to prioritize the underprivileged, the poor," said Pramono before heading to the location of the Jakarta gubernatorial debate on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
Pramono mentioned that he will offer realistic policies if elected as Jakarta's governor. In addition, Pramono said that the programs to be implemented must be in line with the residents' needs.
"I never promise something impossible, for example suddenly there's a gym next to a bus stop, no, no, no," said Pramono.
Meanwhile, Rano Karno mentioned the current urban planning issues in Jakarta, which is the gap in spatial conditions between upper-middle-class settlements and densely populated areas. "Jakarta is an old city, 497 years, so what is the city planning like, it's already planned, now we just need to organize the disparity between the poor and the wealthy," said Rano.
Rano mentioned that they will focus on organizing densely populated areas. According to Rano's records, there are still 450 neighborhood units throughout Jakarta in the slum settlement category. "We will fix this soon," said Rano, who is fondly called Bang Doel.
Regarding the unresolved flood issues in Jakarta, Rano stated that the entire drainage system needs revitalization. The frequent floods in Jakarta, said Rano, are caused by three factors: the inadequate capacity of the 13 rivers passing through Jakarta, incoming floods from upstream areas, and inundation due to damaged drainage channels.
"If we only replace the drainage system every 100 years, the drainage system in Jakarta will have to change, that's what we should do in short, " said Rano.
With this concept and plan, Pramono and Rano confidently present themselves optimally at the final debate of the Jakarta gubernatorial election tonight. In the final debate, the candidates will answer several questions from the panelists regarding city spatial policy and climate change.
After the debate, each candidate will have a week to campaign and socialize their visions and missions. The campaign period will end on Sunday, November 24. The voting will take place on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
The Jakarta gubernatorial election is participated by three candidate pairs. They are Ridwan Kamil-Suswono, Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana, and Pramono Anung-Rano Karno.
