TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Football Association PSSI has released 33 players who were called up for the training camp in Bali starting Thursday, November 27, 2024. PSSI and the National Team Board are in intensive communication with foreign clubs to persuade them to release their players to the Indonesian National Team for the AFF Cup 2024 or the ASEAN Championship 2024.
Seven of the 33 called-up players are abroad players. They are Justin Hubner (Wolves U-21), Asnawi Mangkualam Bahar (Port FC), Pratama Arhan (Suwon FC), Ivar Jenner (Jong Utrecht), Marselino Ferdinan (Oxford United), Rafael Struick (Brisbane Roar), and Ronaldo Kwateh, who currently plays for Muangthong United in Thailand.
The chairman of the national team committee, Sumardji, said that communication with these clubs is still ongoing. He admitted that some clubs have confirmed while others have not.
"Currently, we are still in communication, some have responded, we will meet after December 5, and some may come when we reach the semi-finals, like that," Sumardji said on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Sumardji also revealed that one player who can only be released if the Indonesian national team reaches the semi-finals of the 2024 AFF Cup is Rafael Struick. Brisbane Roar is willing to release Rafael if Indonesia reaches the semi-finals of the AFF Cup 2024. This means that he can only join if Indonesia advances from the group stage.
When asked again about who has been granted permission by their clubs, Sumardji could not provide detailed information. "We will update later, the communication is ongoing," said Sumardji, who is also a member of the PSSI Executive Committee or Exco.
In the 2024 AFF Cup, Shin Tae-yong's team is placed in Group B. The Garuda squad will compete against the national teams of Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.
