TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple is reportedly considering a shift from titanium to aluminum for the frames of its iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models. This move is believed to be influenced by the escalating geopolitical tensions between the United States and China, particularly in light of the potential trade policies of the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
According to tipster Jukanlosreve, the imposition of new tariffs on Chinese titanium imports by the United States could lead to a surge in price for this material. As China is a major global producer of titanium, such a move would have far-reaching implications for various industries, including technology.
According to Phone Arena, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, aside from geopolitical factors, concerns about the performance of titanium have also influenced Apple's decision. Although titanium offers some advantages, such as reduced weight, its use in previous iPhone models has been associated with overheating issues.
To mitigate these issues and reduce costs, Apple is reportedly exploring the use of aluminum as an alternative. Aluminum, although not as strong as stainless steel, is lighter and more affordable than titanium. However, as of now, Apple has not provided an official statement regarding the rumor.
