TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The film Avatar: Fire and Ash recorded the largest opening for a Hollywood movie in Indonesia in 2025. The film earned US$5.6 million, or approximately Rp94 billion, during its first week. The Walt Disney Company released these figures on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
This result makes the James Cameron film the highest-grossing entry in the Avatar franchise in Indonesia. Since its release on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the movie has led the box office.
Previously, Avatar: The Way of Water was noted as the highest-grossing IMAX film of all time in both Indonesia and Thailand.
Top Hollywood Studio in Southeast Asia
The Walt Disney Company also reported its position as the leading Hollywood studio in Southeast Asia. This success follows the performance of other films such as Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which led the studio's growth throughout the year.
"Disney’s position as the leading Hollywood studio in Southeast Asia is proof that our stories resonate deeply with local audiences," said Rachel Fong, Executive Director and Studio General Manager of The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia.
She added that the connection with Indonesian fans is built on high-quality storytelling and universal themes that transcend borders.

Fong noted that the impact of these stories goes beyond the cinema screen. Themes of community in Zootopia 2 and Thunderbolts, and family bonds in Lilo & Stitch and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, create a deep bond with the audience.
"What makes the experience even more compelling is how we bring these narratives to life off-screen. Through local song versions and interactive activations, fans can fully immerse themselves in our stories," she said.

To celebrate the launch, Disney Indonesia built an installation inspired by the film at Senayan City Mall, Jakarta. Created with local studio IMAGISPACE, the area features a volcano and a multisensory space.
Visitors can explore Pandora through thematic gardens and the Mangkwan Clan area. This "Avatar: Fire and Ash Experience" is open until January 11, 2026, with no entry fee, subject to terms and conditions.
Disney also placed Avatar visuals on billboards and LED screens across seven Indonesian cities. This includes a 360-degree display at Bundaran HI during Car Free Day.
The first two Avatar films remain in the top 10 highest-grossing films in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. In Singapore, both films led the box office during their respective years in 2009 and 2022.
