TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) has seized 10,560 liters of cooking oil in a raid on PT Aya Rasa Nabati’s factory in Depok, following allegations that the company deliberately underfilled Minyakita, a government-subsidized cooking oil. PT Aya Rasa Nabati is one of the companies responsible for packaging and distributing Minyakita.
“This seizure was necessary because the actual volume of oil did not match what was stated on the packaging,” said Brig. Gen. Helfi Assegaf, director of Bareskrim’s Special Economic Crimes Directorate (Dittipideksus), during a press conference in South Jakarta on Tuesday, March 11.
Authorities have named a suspect in the case, identified as AWI, the head of the factory.
During the raid, Helfi said, investigators discovered that PT Aya Rasa Nabati had been packaging and distributing Minyakita with less oil than advertised. The company’s machines were deliberately programmed to dispense only 750 milliliters per package, despite labels indicating a full liter.
Helfi said the scheme had been running since early February, with the factory packing between 400 and 800 cartons per day.
AWI allegedly sourced bulk cooking oil from PT MGS in Bekasi, purchasing it at Rp18,100 per liter—significantly higher than the government’s highest retail price (HET). To offset costs, he intentionally reduced the oil content in each package, leaving consumers shortchanged.
Though Minyakita packaging claims to contain one liter, authorities found that each unit held only 750 to 800 milliliters.
AWI has been charged under Indonesia’s Consumer Protection Law (Article 62 of Law No. 8/1999) and the Food Law (Articles 102 and 142 of Law No. 18/2012). If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp2 billion.
