TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Yan Zhenxing (YZ), an international fugitive from China involved in an online gambling syndicate, was arrested by Batam Immigration officers while crossing the Batam Center International Harbor on Monday, December 2, 2024. He has been listed on the Interpol Red Notice since July 3, 2024, for his role in an illegal gambling operation involving money laundering.
Director of Immigration Surveillance and Enforcement, Yuldi Yusman, said that YZ was involved in a criminal group responsible for transferring and laundering money from online gambling platforms.
"YZ is suspected of manipulating data to make a profit of 130 million yuan, equivalent to about Rp284 billion," he said in a press conference on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Batam Immigration officers conducting routine checks at Batam Center Harbor found that YZ was listed in the Border Control Management System with a HIT status, which means he is included in the list of fugitives sought by Interpol. YZ was immediately transferred to the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team (Inteldakim) for further processing.
One day after the arrest, on December 3, 2024, YZ was handled by the Directorate of Immigration Surveillance and Enforcement for case deepening and coordination with Interpol Indonesia. On Thursday, December 5, 2024, he was handed over to the National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol for further processing under international legal procedures.
The head of the Batam Special Class I Immigration Office, Hajar Aswad, revealed that this arrest was a form of commitment by immigration officials to monitor and handle illegal activities involving foreigners.
"We continue to coordinate with Interpol and other relevant parties to protect Indonesia from the threats posed by individuals who are not beneficial and can undermine national stability," he said.
This move is also part of the Indonesian government's efforts to eradicate disturbing online gambling practices and strengthen cooperation with international agencies to combat transnational crimes.
