TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture aims to distribute teachers' professional allowances every month starting in 2026. This was conveyed by the Director General of Teachers and Educational Personnel of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Nunuk Suryani, during the Ngopi Bareng Media event leading up to National Teachers' Day in 2025 in South Jakarta on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Nunuk explained that currently the mechanism at the Ministry of Finance still regulates the disbursement of teacher allowances on a quarterly basis. However, the Ministry of Education and Culture has prepared a regulatory change so that next year, payments can be made on a monthly basis. "We are striving for the disbursement of permits (teacher allowances) to be monthly in 2026. There are rules that cannot be changed instantly, but the policy direction is headed there," she said.
She emphasized that the monthly scheme is important to ensure efficiency, transparency, and to minimize delays that have been largely triggered by technical issues, ranging from inactive accounts to the 24-hour teaching load validation by local governments.
Nunuk added that since early 2024, the Ministry of Education and Culture has been expediting the direct flow of allowances to teachers' accounts, no longer through local governments as before.
Currently, Nunuk stated that the disbursement achievement for special teacher allowances has reached 100 percent. Nevertheless, there are still around 5 percent of cases that are delayed, especially due to administrative constraints in the regions or teachers' accounts that were previously inactive. "This is what we continuously urge, for local governments to conduct faster validation and ensure that teachers' accounts are active," said Nunuk.
The Ministry of Education and Culture aims for all entitled teachers to have received their allowances by Teachers' Day. The transformation of the disbursement mechanism to a monthly basis is expected to take effect next year after the adjustment of regulations between the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Finance is completed.
