TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts rain for Jakarta and surrounding areas on New Year's Eve 2026. Throughout Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the weather in the capital will likely stay cloudy with a high chance of rain.
As the New Year approaches, specifically from 7:00 p.m. to 01:00 a.m. WIB, BMKG expects rain in several parts of the city. Light rain will likely hit North, East, and Central Jakarta. Similar conditions are expected in Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang. Meanwhile, the Thousand Islands may see moderate rain.
On Thursday, January 1, 2026, the early morning weather will remain cloudy. However, BMKG notes that light to moderate rain is still possible in the Thousand Islands and Bogor Regency.
BMKG also urges the public to watch out for lightning and strong winds. These conditions are most likely in the early hours across West, East, and South Jakarta, as well as the surrounding partner cities like Bekasi, Tangerang, and South Tangerang.
Flooding Potential
Besides rain, several Jakarta areas face flood risks on New Year's Eve. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) urges residents to stay alert.
Isnawa Adji, Head of BPBD Jakarta, stated that riverbank areas are the most vulnerable. These include neighborhoods near the Ciliwung, Pesanggrahan, Angke, Krukut, Rajawati, and Kali Mampang rivers. Residents in Pengadegan, Pejaten, Kebon Baru, West Kuningan, Cililitan, Jatinegara, North Kembangan, and Rawa Buaya should be extra careful.
Flooding is also a threat to low-lying areas with poor drainage, such as Cipulir. "Or areas with small drainage and a lack of green open space," Isnawa said when contacted on Wednesday.
In North Jakarta, BPBD warns of tidal flooding. The most at-risk areas are Penjaringan, Kamal Muara, and Ancol. BPBD will continue to monitor river levels and rainfall to anticipate disasters.
"At the New Year's Eve transition, we have 267 disaster management personnel on standby," said Isnawa. BPBD also confirmed that emergency services are available through the 112 hotline and the command center.
