
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has identified the Tropical Cyclone 98S Seed which was observed in the west Indian Ocean, near Bengkulu.
Based on BMKG's data analysis on Wednesday night, March 5, 2025, at 19:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), the center of circulation of this system is located at the coordinates 5.9LS and 92.1BT with a maximum wind speed of 15 knots or 28 km/h and a minimum pressure of 1006 hPa.
BMKG stated that the potential of Tropical Cyclone 98S Seed to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours is still low. However, within the next 48 to 72 hours, the possibility increases to moderate to high. "Tropical Cyclone Seed 98S is moving southwest away from the Indonesian region," BMKG wrote in a written statement.
Nevertheless, the indirect impacts of Tropical Cyclone 98S Seed are predicted to affect the weather and waters in several regions of Indonesia in the next 24 hours, until March 6, 2025 at 19:00 WIB. Moderate to heavy rain is predicted to occur in Bengkulu and Lampung.
In addition, sea waves with heights of 1.25 - 2.5 meters (Moderate Sea) are potential in the western waters of Aceh, western waters of Siberut-Sipora-Pagai, western waters of Padang to Lampung, west Indian Ocean of Aceh, and west Indian Ocean of Bengkulu to Lampung.
Meanwhile, higher waves ranging from 2.5 - 4.0 meters (Rough Sea) are predicted to occur in the western waters of North Sumatra, western waters of Nias Islands, and west Indian Ocean of Nias Islands to Mentawai Islands.
