TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning regarding the potential for heavy rain in parts of South Jakarta and East Jakarta, in the afternoon approaching evening, Thursday, December 12, 2024. This heavy rain may be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds blowing northwest with a maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour.
According to weather forecast officially released by BMKG at 19:00 WIB, yesterday Wednesday, North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands have experienced light rain since earlier this morning. At the same time, Central Jakarta's sky is heavily overcast, whereas other DKI areas are cloudy.
From 07:00 WIB until noon, almost all areas of Jakarta are predicted to be partly cloudy. Only the Thousand Islands remain cloudy. BMKG forecasts today's air temperature to range between 25 and 31 degrees Celsius. The humidity level is around 80-95 percent.
In the afternoon, approaching evening at 19:00 WIB, moderate rain is predicted to hit South Jakarta and East Jakarta. During this period, rain could be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Meanwhile, Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, West Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands will experience light rain.
Several atmospheric phenomena will influence the weather patterns in Indonesia until December 16, 2024. These atmospheric conditions promote the formation of rain clouds in various regions, especially in central and eastern Indonesia.
According to information released by BMKG on Instagram, the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is one of the atmospheric phenomena driving the formation of convective clouds and rain. Currently, the active MJO is passing, particularly in phase 5 of central and eastern Indonesia.
Indonesia's weather conditions are also affected by three tropical cyclone seeds that are being monitored lining up in its southern waters. Each cyclone seed is in the southwestern Indian Ocean near Banten (91S), then in the southern Indian Ocean near West Nusa Tenggara (94S), and the rest in the Timor Sea southwest of the Tanimbar Islands (94S).
