TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Expect cold surge to continue to affect the weather in Indonesia over the next week. The strong cold air flow from the Asian continent towards Indonesia is expected to persist, especially during the Christmas period.
Over the past week, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded a significant increase in the cold wind surge index. This condition has triggered moderate to heavy rainfall in the western and southern regions of Indonesia, coinciding with the strengthening of the Asian Monsoon winds.
In addition, the weak La-Nina condition has also increased the potential for rain in the eastern part of Indonesia. Meanwhile, the combination of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and atmospheric waves is predicted to be active and contribute to the growth of rain clouds in the western Indian Ocean near Aceh, the western part of the Indian Ocean near Nias, and the northern part of the Malacca Strait.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Grant, which evolved from the 93S cyclone seed last Tuesday, is said to have only indirectly impacted the sea wave conditions on the southern coast of Indonesia. Moderate high waves (1.25-2.5 meters) are occurring in the waters off the western coast of Lampung, the southern part of the Sunda Strait, the southern waters of Java Island, the western Indian Ocean near Bengkulu to Lampung, and the southern Indian Ocean off Java Island.
