TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Regional Disaster Management Agency of Jakarta (BPBD DKI) has prepared a number of flood mitigation measures ahead of the regional election or Pilkada on November 27. The Head of Data and Information Center (Kapusdatin) of BPBD Jakarta, Mohamad Yohan, stated that his team has coordinated with the General Election Commission (KPU) to map out flood-prone locations, such as Central Jakarta and East Jakarta.
"To ensure that polling stations (TPS) are not set up in areas that are prone to flooding on voting day," said Yohan to Tempo, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
According to Yohan, polling station locations at risk of floods will be relocated to safer areas. Reserve locations that can be used as polling stations range from schools, places of worship, to other government buildings. "To avoid disruptions caused by floods on voting day," he added.
Security forces, such as police and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), will also be present to ensure the smooth running of the regional election in flood-prone areas. Apart from maintaining order, the authorities are also prepared to face potential natural disasters, one of which includes ensuring that polling stations are not affected by floods or other damages.
Previously, the Jakarta Central Government had surveyed and relocated polling stations at risk of floods to safer locations. This is because the voting will take place during the rainy season.
"We aim to place polling stations in locations that are indeed safe, both environmentally and in terms of the impacts of the rainy season," said the Mayor of Central Jakarta, Dhany Sukma.
