TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Buckingham Palace, the iconic London residence of the British monarch, is set to offer visitors a truly royal experience in 2025. For the first time, visitors will be granted access to the East Wing which has been closed to the public for nearly two centuries.
Starting in January, guided tours will take visitors through the East Wing, offering a unique glimpse into the history and grandeur of the royal residence. The tour will include the famous central balcony, from which the royal family traditionally greets the public.
Royal Tour Fee
The 90-minute guided tours, priced at £90 or Rp1.8 million, will provide a deeper understanding of the history and significance of the East Wing, which was added to the palace in 1849 for Queen Victoria and her family after the death of her uncle, William IV.
A Royal Residence in Transformation
Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the British monarch, continues to undergo a significant £369 million or Rp7.5 trillion renovation project. This decade-long endeavor aims to modernize the palace's infrastructure, including electrical wiring, plumbing, and heating systems.
While the King and Queen Camilla currently reside at Clarence House, Buckingham Palace remains an important symbol of the British monarchy. It hosts state visits, investitures, and other royal events.
Expanding Royal Access
In addition to Buckingham Palace, the Royal Collection Trust will also offer increased access to other royal residences in 2025. Windsor Castle and Holyroodhouse Palace will be open to the public, with ticket prices starting at £1 or around Rp20,000 per person for those on universal credit.
St. James's Palace, another historic royal residence, will also be open to the public on selected weekends in the spring of 2025. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the Royal Chapel, where Prince George and Prince Louis were baptized.
