TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) Jazilul Fawaid asked the new leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to maintain the people's trust. He is optimistic that the anti-graft agency's leaders can work well.
"Public support is still great for the KPK compared to other institutions. But please let the new leadership maintain the existing trust," said the Chairman of the DPR PKB faction in Jakarta in a written statement on Friday, December 13, 2024.
Jazilul also highlighted the KPK's still-considered selective handling of corruption cases. He said this should be corrected so that the handling of corruption cases in the future is more professional.
He alluded to public allegations that a number of cases in law enforcement agencies were not legal processes but political processes. This condition, he said, was very dangerous, as it would undermine the independence of the KPK and destroy public trust.
"So, the new KPK leadership must reverse public perception by working transparently. There is no pressure from the executive, no political pressure, no selective process," he said.
In carrying out its duties to eradicate corruption, Jazilul asked the KPK leadership to utilize digital technology. "All bureaucracies have digital systems. But if you want to report, the digital system sometimes dies. Sometimes complaints are not taken seriously, including at the KPK," he said.
Jazilul said that thousands of complaints entered the KPK in a year. The complaints' results are then mapped, investigated, and investigated again. He cautioned that the complaints should not be arranged to make someone a suspect in a corruption case.
Therefore, he asked for the adoption of technology to promote transparency in corruption eradication. Thus, said Jazilul, nothing is covered up in the handling of cases, and the public can participate in monitoring.
"I hope the process of eradicating corruption also involves sophisticated technology, apart from wiretapping," said the politician from Gresik, East Java.
