TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Nutrition Agency Head Dadan Hindayana has stated that the free nutritious meal program that kicked off in January 2025 is entirely funded by the State Budget (APBN). He emphasized that all regions receive raw materials from suppliers through APBN disbursements.
“Free nutritious meals in 2025 commenced in January and are accounted for within the 2025 APBN. So it adheres to standard accountability procedures,” Dadan confirmed to Tempo on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
This clarification follows an earlier statement by the Head of Communications for the President, Hasan Nasbi, that some regions were still utilizing President Prabowo Subianto's personal funds during the program's initial stages. “In Kendari, they are still using the remaining trial budget previously provided by Pak Prabowo,” Nasbi said on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Hasan further clarified that once these initial funds are used up, the program will transition entirely to the allocated APBN budget of Rp71 trillion. This program, a cornerstone initiative of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, aims to provide nutritious meals to approximately 19.47 million children, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups.
The National Nutrition Agency spearheaded the program's launch with the establishment of 190 SPPGs (public kitchens) across 26 provinces in Indonesia. West Java leads with the highest number of SPPG locations with a total of 57 operational kitchens. These kitchens collaborate with diverse entities, including cooperatives, foundations, and limited liability companies.
To ensure strict supervision of nutritional quality and smooth food distribution, each SPPG collaborates with a nutritionist and an accountant. Additionally, SPPGs are mandated to strictly adhere to hygiene standards, as well as implement nutritional management practices and waste management protocols within each MBG kitchen.
