TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s carrier airline, Garuda Indonesia, is adding four aircraft to its roster by the end of 2024. The four planes come from Lebanon and Alice Springs, Australia.
Garuda Indonesia's CEO, Irfan Setiaputra, said the aircraft will arrive in the country in stages. Irfan said an aircraft from Lebanon will be acquired by the end of November. "There’s one from Lebanon that has yet to arrive,” said Irfan when met at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Monday, November 11, 2024.
The Garuda Indonesia boss said the four aircraft are procured in anticipation of the year-end holiday surge. Irfan assured the planes will be operable by the end of this year.
These planes, however, are merely on lease from a third party. Thus, Garuda Indonesia will only pay for the leasing instead of purchasing new planes. "We are leasing all of them, so we are only paying for the lease. None of the planes are purchased,” said Irfan.
In a public presentation by the management, Garuda Indonesia said it had operated 96 planes as of October 2024, including 56 planes flown by Garuda Indonesia and 40 planes operated by its subsidiary, Citilink.
The number is down one fleet compared to September, which reached 97 planes operated in a month.
On the other hand, the state-owned enterprise also recorded a net income of US$18.11 million in October 2024, a contrast to the US$82.86 million net loss incurred in the previous month.
Irfan maintained that the net income was due to changes in the Financial Accounting Standards (PSAK) 73 to 107. "This company is getting better, not yet optimal, but continuously improving," said Irfan.
