TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The music concert Get The Fest will be held at Taman Breksi, Prambanan, Sleman from October 25 to 27, 2024. The glamorous stage, from the lighting to the sound system, consumes a total of 60,000 watts of energy, which is generated purely from 2.5 tons of plastic waste. The plastic waste was collected from residents and then processed into fuel oil.

Agustinus Gusti Nugroho, a singer and musician known as Nugie, said this may be the first music concert using energy generated from plastic waste.

"Starting from the light, sound, video, and others produced from things considered trivial (plastic waste) and unusable, could be turned into solar energy, petrol, kerosene, gas and others," Nugie said during the opening of Get The Fest in Breksi, Friday night, October 25, 2024.

The music concert with many singers and musicians campaigns for the reduction of plastic waste and the processing of plastic waste into energy with the theme "less plastic, more energy". This means that they aim to reduce plastic waste in order to obtain energy, whether it's gasoline, solar, or kerosene.

Several musicians performing in this event include Iksan Skuter, Ipank Hore-Hore, Ipang Lazuardi, Endah n Rhesa, Pusakata, Nurbait, and others.

The processing of plastic waste is initiated by the Get Plastic Indonesia Foundation led by Dimas Agung Wijanarko. The plastic waste is shredded and then processed using pyrolysis or distillation system.

At this music event, the organizers received a donation of 2,522.56 kilograms of waste or about 2.5 tons. The total amount of plastic waste processed into fuel oil is 1,922.27 kilograms or about 1.9 tons. The fuel oil produced is in the form of solar, totaling 1,854.34 liters.

"We start with small things like reducing plastic waste. Events like this can become an annual agenda until the plastic waste problem is solved," said Dimas.

Rizki Ekananda, Lead Specialist Process Development Research at PT Pertamina, supported the processing of plastic waste into energy. Sustainability has been an issue at Pertamina for quite some time.

"Community initiatives like this can be supported, for example, if it's about technology, we can develop it together. In terms of knowledge, we have a lot of experience," said Rizki.

Pertamina is one of the companies sponsoring the concert. Rizki admires the music concert, which uses a genset with fuel made from recycled plastic. He believes that such innovation should be supported and made sustainable.

Purwoko, a genset operator from Sri Mulih Jenset Banguntapan, Bantul, who provided the equipment for this music concert, stated that this was the first time they used solar energy from plastic waste. Everything went smoothly from filling the solar panels to turning on the generators.

Two of the generators used in this event have a capacity of 8000 watts and another one has a capacity of 50,000 watts. The total power used is about 60,000 watts for stage power and other needs.

"This is the first time we are using solar power from processed plastic," Purwoko said.
