TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has reopened public registration for those wishing to attend the country’s 80th Independence Day (HUT ke-80 RI) celebration and the national flag-lowering ceremony at Merdeka Palace on August 17, 2025.

Registration for the additional quota is available via the Pandang Istana Presiden website (pandang.istanapresiden.go.id) on August 7 and 8, starting at 10:00 AM WIB (Western Indonesia TIme). This second phase of registration follows a surge in demand, which saw the initial quota (released on August 4) filled within just two days.

Within 30 minutes of the first registration opening, over 26,000 users accessed the website to secure a spot, according to State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, who leads the organizing committee.

“I thank all citizens who showed such enthusiasm in registering for the Independence Day ceremony,” Prasetyo said during a press briefing at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, August 5.

He added that most applicants were from Jakarta, West Java, and Banten, prompting the government to reallocate part of the existing quota to accommodate more participants.

While 80 percent of the total seats were already reserved for the general public, Prasetyo noted that this figure may still be adjusted after further evaluation.

Registration Requirements

To register, applicants must:

  • Fill out personal information and a valid email

  • Upload a photo of their ID

  • Upload a selfie holding the same ID

Successful registrants will receive a confirmation email. This process, Prasetyo explained, is designed to ensure data security and prevent identity fraud.

Evening Carnival and Public Celebration

Beyond the morning ceremony, the government is also planning a new evening carnival around the Presidential Palace to mark the historic anniversary. “We're preparing a nighttime parade to make the celebration more festive,” Prasetyo said.

The day’s activities will also include traditional arts and cultural performances in the Palace courtyard. After the morning ceremony, the public can enjoy a celebration featuring food and drinks, provided by local street vendors who usually operate around the Presidential Palace and the National Monument (Monas).
