TEMPO.CO, Solo - Hailstorm, accompanied by strong winds, hit Solo City, Central Java, on Saturday, November 16, 2024. About 50 houses belonging to Solo residents were damaged by the strong winds, with dozens of trees uprooted. There were no casualties from the incident.
The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Solo City, Nico Agus Putranto, stated that based on the assessment of today's event, there were 50 houses in the Mojo Village, Pasar Kliwon District, Solo, whose roofs were severely damaged due to the strong winds.
"We have assessed that 50 houses were affected by the storm," said Nico, confirming the incident on Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2024.
He explained that the incident took place in houses that were relocated from densely populated slum areas. However, he assured that there were no casualties in the incident.
"There are no casualties," he said.
As a result of the incident, residents whose houses were damaged had to evacuate to safer locations. Temporary shelters with emergency tents were set up for them. The BPBD also established a public kitchen to assist the dietary needs of the evacuees.
"We have set up a public kitchen to cater to the dietary needs of the residents at the evacuation sites," he added.
Furthermore, he mentioned that hail also occurred at several locations in Solo City, including in the Gilingan Village, Gajahan Village, and Mangkubumen.
"We also received reports of hail in three villages in Solo. However, it did not cause damage to the residents' roofs," he stated.
Trees Uprooted
Meanwhile, trees were reported uprooted at 23 locations. Most of the trees were along the roads, causing traffic disruptions.
"Some vehicles were hit by the uprooted trees, but they only suffered minor damage. The assessment for material losses is still ongoing," he added.
According to information obtained by Tempo, there were 23 locations with uprooted trees in Solo as a result of today's incident. Some of these locations include in front of Hotel Novotel Solo, behind SDN Mojo Elementary School, Pasar Klitikan Market, Mas Pasar Kembang Store, Sarana Medika on Jl. Honggowongso, Hassanudin Street towards Nongko Market, in front of the District Court of Solo, north of Sondakan Field up to in front of Hotel Dana Solo.
