TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi, ensures that the budget cuts imposed on the ministry will not affect the health services. The budget cut approved by the House of Representatives (DPR) for the Ministry of Health amounts to Rp19.6 trillion out of the total budget of Rp105.7 trillion.

"What can be ensured is that we, the government, will not reduce public health services. It's not," said Budi when met at the Directorate General of Health Human Resources of the Ministry of Health in South Jakarta on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

However, according to Budi, it cannot be denied that the efficiency will affect the reallocation of funds for several priority programs, including the funds allocation for vaccines and medicines. "So, there might be some necessary reallocation for those priority programs. From our demands, there are still several priority programs that are not sufficient to be covered by that amount of money," he said.

After calculating in a meeting with the House of Representatives, Budi said that one of the programs affected by the budget cut in health is the procurement of vaccines and medicines. However, they have decided to conduct further evaluations after monitoring their absorption until next June. "We have calculated with the House of Representatives, indeed there are some that are affected, such as vaccines and medicines, but again we will see their realization until June," he said.

Budi explained that although budget cuts can affect the allocation of funds for vaccines and medicines, the government ensures the availability of excess stock of these two items for two months. "Because vaccines and medicines also have a 2-month stock. We budget for 12 months," he said.

According to Budi, if there is a shortage in meeting the needs of the public within six months, the authorities, the President, and the Ministry of Finance will not hesitate to provide additional funding. "But if it turns out that with these savings we are sufficient, then maybe there's no need for an addition. We will look again in the next 6 months," he said.

The budget cut policy is part of the evaluation of fund utilization based on the Letter from the Minister of Finance Number S-37/MK.02/2025 regarding the Efficiency of Expenditure of Ministries/Institutions in the Implementation of the State Budget for the 2025 Fiscal Year. This letter was issued by the Ministry of Finance as a follow-up to Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 1 of 2025 concerning the Efficiency of Expenditure and the Implementation of the State Budget and Regional Budget for the 2025 Fiscal Year issued by Prabowo on January 22. The government also targets saving Rp50.5 trillion of regional transfer funds (TKD), so overall, the state budget is targeted to save Rp306.6 trillion.
