TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The IKN state mosque will be operable during Ramadan 2025 for the evening mass prayers, or “Tarawih,” said the head of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, adding that the construction is almost complete.
Basuki said he heard about the construction progress from the Deputy Minister of Public Works, Diana Kusumastuti.
“God willing, we can use the state mosque for Tarawih prayers,” Basuki said at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Basuki, however, has yet to confirm whether President Prabowo Subianto will perform tarawih prayers at the IKN state mosque. “I don't know about that,” Basuki said.
Previously, the spokesperson for the Presidential Communications Office, Hariqo Wibawa Satria, said that the mosque in IKN will replace the status of the Jakarta Istiqlal Mosque as Indonesia’s state mosque.
“While Istiqlal Mosque is the current state mosque, the status will be replaced by the IKN mosque once we relocate the state capital,” Hariqo said in a written statement on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Hariqo said that the IKN state mosque will be available for the 2025 Eid prayer, with a capacity of 5,580 worshipers. The state mosque is said to accommodate as many as 60,000 worshipers.
The IKN mosque consists of a four-story main building with two mezzanine floors and two floors of multipurpose courtyards as well as parking.
The mosque is built on a land area of 32,125 square meters, with a building area of 61,596 square meters. In addition, a commercial building with two floors covers an area of 2,212 square meters, and support buildings cover an area of 727 square meters.
The IKN state mosque will be equipped with four special VVIP lots and one disabled-friendly lot. There will also be five parking lots designated for buses, as well as on the LG floor in the courtyard area with a capacity of 64 parking lots.
